Sure, love is nice. But when there’s no romance to be found IRL, it’s time to turn to the silver screen. From teen stories that will make you weep to rom-coms that poke fun at, well, rom-coms, here are 12 of the most romantic movies coming in 2019.

1

Isn’t It Romantic? (February 13)

If you want to see all the traditional rom-com tropes upended but still get your happy ending, Isn’t It Romantic will cater very nicely to you. It will also give you the glorious vision of Liam Hemsworth playing the saxophone. You didn’t even know you wanted that in your life, right?

2

Five Feet Apart (March 15)

This Fault in Our Starsesque movie will have you full of feels. Starring Stella Grant and Cole Sprouse as two teenagers with cystic fibrosis, it tells the heartwarming tale of the duo as they try to stick to their boundaries (the “five feet” in the title is the distance they’re supposed to keep from each other) while they fall in love.

3

After (April 12)

Good girl meets bad boy in this movie, which originally started as an erotic fanfic by Anna Todd. After follows sweet Tessa, as she enters college and encounters Hardin Scott (inspired by Harry Styles!), a mysterious classmate who turns her life upside down.

4

Someone Great (April 19)

Get your girls together and add this movie to your Netflix queue. The incredible Gina Rodriguez stars as Jenny, a music journalist who gets a new job in San Francisco, which means she has to leave her best friends, boyfriend, and NYC behind—but not before one more epic adventure with her BFFs by her side.

5

Under the Silver Lake (April 19)

This isn’t your typical romantic movie. It might seem like a classic boy-meets-girl film, but there’s a twist: The girl disappears with no trace. Andrew Garfield stars as Sam, the bereft young man who goes into the depths of L.A. to crack the code of Sarah’s (Riley Keough) disappearance.

6

Long Shot (May 3)

Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron star in that unusual beast: a political romantic comedy. Fred Flarsky, an awkward, grizzly, yet talented journalist, goes after his childhood crush, the intelligent, polished, and elegant Secretary of State Charlotte Field, who’s on the presidential path.

7

The Sun Is Also a Star (May 17)

Get your tissues ready—this one’s going to make you cry forever. Yara Shahidi and Charles Melton star in this beautiful teenage romance as Natasha and Daniel, who begin a whirlwind romance with a ticking clock: The same day Natasha meets Charles, she’s about to be deported. The film is based on a YA novel of the same name, by Nicola Yoon.

8

Aladdin (May 24)

“A Whole New World” is coming your way (sorry). Aladdin, the Disney classic, comes back to life in this live-action remake, starring Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, and Will Smith as the Genie.

9

Always Be My Maybe (May)

If you loved Ali Wong’s comedy special Baby Cobra and constantly binge-watch Fresh Off the Boat, you’ll love this rom-com. Director Nahnatchka Khan and actors Randall Park and Ali Wong come together for this tale of two childhood sweethearts who grow apart only to reconnect 15 years later.

10

Last Christmas (November 15)

Game of Thrones fans in mourning over the end of their favorite show might find some solace in this Christmas romantic comedy starring Emilia Clarke (a.k.a. the mother of dragons) and Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding. Set in London during the most magical time of the year, Last Christmas sees Kate meets Tom right when things in her life are falling apart—but is he too good to be true?

12

The Last Summer (2019)

Tyler Posey and KJ Apa in the same movie—sign us up! This Netflix Original follows a group of high-school seniors having one last summer adventure before they go off to college. According to shots from set, there’s sure to be sparks between Apa’s character Griffin and female lead Maia Mitchell.
