Beyoncé Dropped a Documentary and a Live Album and People Are Freaking Out

“Coachella gotta rename Coachella to Beychella,” DJ Khaled proudly proclaimed during Beyoncé’s near two-hour iconic festival set last year, gifting the world with yet another one of his golden terms. “New name alert: Beychella!”

At Beychella, Beyoncé turned into a campus queen by paying tribute to HBCUs and black culture in between deep diving into her extensive discography, all the while redefining what a festival performance should look like. So when she announced that she would be releasing a documentary chronicling the road to Beychella on April 17, fans could barely keep their excitement.

In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, the excitement was palpable. Beyoncé kept true to her promise and rolled out her highly-anticipated Netflix documentary Homecoming: A Film by Beyonce, quickly filling up the top trending slots on Twitter and prompting fans everywhere to search for an excuse to call out of work.

“When I decided to do Coachella, instead of me pulling out my flower crown, it was more important that I brought our culture to Coachella,” she said in a voiceover in the documentary. But in true Beyoncé fashion, the documentary wasn’t the only gift she had for fans. She also surprise-dropped the 40-track Homecoming: The Live Album just in time for our morning commute.

Both the documentary and the album were officially released at 3 a.m., but that didn’t stop a single Hive member from staying up to watch the film, which ultimately led to a Twitter-wide watch party full of funny reactions and discussions. Some of the best, below.
