Here Are the Best “sHE beLIEveD” Memes Inspired by Billie Eilish

The life of a meme is a peculiar thing to study. Some memes live forever, some are over as soon as the song its associated with gets stuck in the head of everyone in the known universe, and, in a rare moment, some resurface years after they first came to be. The latter, dear reader, is the very special case of the “sHE beLIEveD” meme, all thanks to singer Billie Eilish.

“sHE beLIEveD” first came to life around 2012, when teens on Tumblr were obsessed with the fact that the phrase actually read “he lied.” Very clever word play, citizens of the internet. But in 2015, 13-year-old Eilish uploaded the song “sHE’S brOKen” to SoundCloud. The phrase actually reads, “He’s OK,” in a similarly smart format. But observant internet fans noted that the commenters on Eilish’s song gave her all the credit, when, in fact, the real genius was the 2012 meme.

Eilish seems to be busy with her own ever-growing career at this point. This week, she’s been promoting her new album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which was released on March 29.

On Monday, she performed “When the Party’s Over,” a song from the album, on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

But even though it’s been all about her career (and memes, apparently), lately, she still has time to devote to her one true love: burritos.
