Rachel McAdams recently graced the cover of Girls. Girls. Girls magazine wearing a diamond choker, a neon Versace jacket, and a breast pump. The new mom worked with photographer Claire Rothstein—a mom, herself—on the shoot in order to help normalize breastfeeding.

Rothstein shared a lengthy and important caption about the shoot’s significance, here:

“A million reasons why I wanted to post this picture. Obviously #rachelmcadams looks incredible and was quite literally the dream to work with but also this shoot was about 6 months post her giving birth to her son, so between shots she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding. We had a mutual appreciation disagreement about whose idea it was to take this picture but I’m still sure it was hers which makes me love her even more. Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world and I can’t for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of. I don’t even think it needs explaining but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person’s perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing then that’s great. Besides she’s wearing Versace and @bulgariofficial diamonds and is just fucking major. Big shout out to all the girls.”

The shot (and accompanying message) went instantly viral, and apparently struck a chord with new mom Hilary Duff. The actress gave birth to a baby girl named Banks in October of this year and is still pumping for her daughter. Inspired by McAdams and Rothstein’s work, Duff captured the reality that is breastfeeding in a new Instagram post:

“Am I doing this right?” Duff captioned the post. The new mom has been fairly open about the imperfect reality of motherhood, posting photos of herself feeding her new baby while simultaneously trying to feed herself, and being candid about all things screaming and crying.

“We two months in sister. Been a lot of sleepless nights and you sure do scream a lot,” Duff captioned this photo from New Year’s Day. “But you are worth every moment my little strugglebunny.”

We’re happy to see her happy, healthy, and completely frank about breastfeeding.
