It’s hard to escape the constant stream of news updates regarding the novel coronavirus. From store closings to event postponements and every new statistic in between, most would find it nearly impossible to evade COVID-19 coverage. And yet, it oddly tracks that Jared Leto would be the last man on Earth to hear word of the news.

Leto took to social media to notify the world that because he was social distancing a little too well during a 12-day silent meditation, he missed the pandemic entirely. “Wow. 12 days ago I began a silent meditation in the desert,” his message began. “We were totally isolated. No phone, no communication etc. We had no idea what was happening outside the facility. Walked out yesterday into a very different world. One that’s been changed forever. Mind blowing – to say the least.”

That means that Leto and his companions had been totally unaware of mass toilet paper outages, restaurant closures, and celebrities including Tom Hanks and Idris Elba testing positive for the virus. “I’m getting messages from friends and family all around the globe and catching up on what’s going on,” Leto continued on social media. “Hope you and yours are ok. Sending positive energy to all. Stay inside. Stay safe.”

Upon hearing the news yesterday, Leto struck a somber mood on Instagram, posting a black-and-white photo of himself with the caption, “Stay safe 🖤.”

As bizarre as this turn of events seems, at least Leto had ample time to harness his self-isolation skills before distancing himself once more.
