Some people celebrate making it by buying a Chanel or Celine bag. Meghan Markle, back when she was just a mere up-and-coming actress, celebrated her newly rich status by throwing a very special party for herself, Vanity Fair reports. A Hollywood source told the outlet that the celebration was “unofficially billed as a ‘Sayonara Zara’ party,” and that Meghan “gave away the lower-priced clothes in her closet to her guests.” Imagine! You go to a party your newly-rich, The Tig blogging friend Meghan throws, get some of her great Zara clothes for free, and now own the clothes of a Duchess.
Meghan now wears thousands of dollars-worth of pieces to her royal engagements. Pieces are custom made for her, but she doesn’t get any giveaway clothes. Her clothing budget comes from Prince Charles’s $28 million Duchy of Cornwall income, along with Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Prince William’s. Meghan will also borrow jewelry from the Queen’s royal jewels collection for certain events.
As a Duchess, Meghan does sometimes wears a fast-fashion piece or two. She’s worn Aritzia, J.Crew and Asos to events. But there’s a conscientiousness to her dressing now that reflects the work she does as a working royal. “Meghan is conscious of making her work wardrobe become too trend-conscious,” a royal insider previously told ELLE.com. “Meghan is still new to this and aware everyone still watching her and wants to be respectful and doesn’t want her style to take away from the very important work she’s doing.”
