Miley Cyrus hinted something big was coming with Marc Jacobs when she was photographed leaving the fashion house’s New York City office earlier this week. Tonight, that big thing happened: The singer walked the brand’s fall/winter 2020 New York Fashion Week show. It was a surprise ending to NYFW’s buzzy closing show. She wore a black crop top with pants and was a natural on the runway:
This is not Cyrus’ first time ever walking a fashion show. She’s appeared on the runway before for Jeremy Scott.
The theme of Marc Jacobs’ collection shown tonight was chaos and form. In the show notes, Jacobs explained his inspiration:
While infinitely inspired by my heroes of past and present, it is the style in which different people dress at the various stages, ages, and times in their lives, for all manner of occasions and moments, that endlessly provokes my love of fashion and the possibilities of what can be.
Referencing my own life and career thus far, it is the fading picture of a disappearing New York that prevails—now foreign and exotic in its extinction, forever mythical and chic with its beauty, promise, sparkle and grit.
As a departure from last season’s flamboyance, free spirit, and unbridled energy, and color, this collection emphasizes restraint, quality of fabrics, make and proportion— valuing simplicity and timelessness without forgoing our celebration of individuality, variety, and character. The extremes, in their structured simplicity, are as radical a choice and challenge as the bravado of past collections.
Front row celebrities at the show included Nicki Minaj.
