Phoebe Waller-Bridge wears a lot of hats. She’s the creator of the BBC drama Killing Eve. She’s also the creator of Fleabag, as well as the lead actress in the series, playing its titular character. And even though she refrained from casting herself in Killing Eve, she has now decided to write herself into the show so she can be murdered by the show’s assassin, Villanelle.
In a recent interview with The Mirror, Waller-Bridge said she’s planning to get killed by Villanelle (played by Jodie Comer) in the show’s third season. She said, “I was like, I am going to write myself a part so that I can be murdered by Jodie.” (The Mirror reports she’s “planning a grisly, 007-style demise for herself.”) Truly, who amongst us wouldn’t?
Back in January, in an interview with ELLE, Comer raved about being on a show filled with women like Waller-Bridge and her co-star, Sandra Oh. “I did have a moment last year at the Critics’ Choice Awards,” she said. “I was with Phoebe, Sandra and Fiona [Shaw] and I was like, ‘This is so fucking cool.’ To be on set not just with women, but these women in particular–being encouraged by them, learning from them and laughing with them–it’s just special.”
The third season of Killing Eve doesn’t return for its next season anytime soon, but Waller-Bridge is plenty busy, also working on the next James Bond script. Let’s see if she sneaks herself into that one as well.
