Universal just released the first trailer for the new comedy Little and, without hyperbole, I do not think I have ever needed anything more than this film. National treasure Regina Hall plays Jordan, the unrepentantly mean boss to national treasure Issa Rae’s April. Jordan terrorizes her office, Miranda Priestly–style, until a magical wish from a little girl turns Jordan into a kid again. And that kid is played by national treasure Marsai Martin, otherwise known as meme-queen Diane from black-ish.
The hilarious trailer makes the film look like a combination of everyone’s favorite kinds of movies. It’s a “grown-up in a kid’s body movie” like Freaky Friday and 17 Again (see also: Big and 13 Going on 30). It’s a “mean boss learns a lesson” movie like Set It Up or A Muppet Christmas Carol. It’s a “put-upon assistant makes good” movie like America’s Sweethearts or Working Girl. Oh! And, when the now-young Jordan must be enrolled in school and taught by This Is Us snack Justin Hartley it becomes an “inappropriately flirting with a hot teacher movie but it’s okay because of magic and/or shenanigans” like Never Been Kissed! So many movies in one little movie!
Little opens in the U.S. on April 12.
