Stevie Nicks has been a fixture in American culture for decades. She’s made both shawls and tambourines iconic, and no matter how you feel about Twilight, she wrote a song inspired by it, which automatically makes Twilight cool for the duration of that song. So, when Stevie Nicks makes a mistake, like, say, suggesting that Harry Styles was a member of NSYNC, we forgive her.

On Friday night, Nicks was at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, where she was being celebrated as the first woman to be honored twice in her career by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She also performed a four-song sat and sang “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Styles, who filled in for the late Tom Petty. Backstage, she spoke to reporters about her friendship with 25-year-old Styles.

“What I really loved about Harry was that when he chose to make a solo record from NSYNC,” she said, before realizing her mistake. “Sorry, I’m never gonna to live that one down, I know that. One Direction. I liked One Direction, too.”

Nicks, 70, added that she considers Styles to be a lot like her Fleetwood Mac band members. This diehard Fleetwood Mac fan is taking Nicks’s comparison under serious consideration.

“He just fits in with all of us. He loves our music and he loves the whole ‘70s and ‘80s and ‘90s music he has been doing all this time,” she said.

To his credit, Styles has done Fleetwood Mac justice in the past with his 2o17 coverage of “The Chain” for BBC Video.

And if Stevie Nicks herself approves of former NSYNC member Harry Styles covering her music, then it’s obviously OK.
